Slow Cooker Apple Butter

  • Apples, warm spices and a little patience transform into a rich, spreadable taste of fall while the slow cooker does most of the work. Ingredients makes 1.5 pints.

Slow Cooker Apple Butter
  • 2 ½ lb North Bay McIntosh apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • Juice and zest of 1 lemon
  • ⅔ cup brown sugar
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground cloves
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract or paste
  • Salt, to taste
  • ½ cup apple cider

Place all ingredients in a crock pot and stir gently to coat the apples. Lid the crock pot and cook on low for 8 hours. Remove the lid, mash the ingredients with a potato masher (for a chunky texture) or an immersion blender (until smooth), and cook for an additional hour on low, uncovered, or until you reach your desired consistency. Store in an airtight container or small jam jars in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 3 months. Makes a great gift!
